Glenn Greenwald is my HERO
Posted:Wednesday, April 15, 2009
Glenn is better than anyone I know at "hitting the nail on the head". I became fairly convinced of this with his recent, in-depth report on Portugal's decision to legalize the possession of any/all drugs and what effect this legal stance has had on their society.
His post today, however, removed any remaining doubt. Titled "The ultimate reaping of what one sows: right-wing edition", Glenn's latest piece nails the GOP with the very nails they forged. Referring to the cacophony of cries from the extreme right about how Pres. Obama is using the Department of Homeland Security to surveil and investigate extremist right-wing groups, Glenn responds with laser-guided accuracy:
When you cheer on a Surveillance State, you have no grounds to complain when it turns its eyes on you. If you create a massive and wildly empowered domestic surveillance apparatus, it's going to monitor and investigate domestic political activity. That's its nature.
Exactly. These same right-wing pundits cheered themselves hoarse when Bush authorized this type of surveillance and then they gave standing ovations when it was directed at left-leaning political groups (animal rights activist, gay rights activists, Anti-WMF demonstrators, etc.).
Now that they are the ones in the crosshairs, they claim that this type of surveillance and investigation is "unconstitutional" and "facist".
How short their memory is. It would do my heart good if the right wing nutosphere was actually successful in striking down the very laws and presidential powers they helped enact under Bush's reign.
